monet’s garden

there are very few books I remember reading growing up but Linnea in Monet’s Garden is one of the ones I distinctly remember. even since reading that book, I always wanted to go there and wander around the grounds and stand on the famous bridge. so when I found out Emily’s class was going and I could tag along too, I was overjoyed! it was a grey, rainy day but that didn’t even deter from the beauty of the gardens. the gardens feel much more quaint and intimate that I imagined they would which made me like them even more. we wandered around and visited the gift shop, which used to be Monet’s studio, and took quintessential pictures on Monet’s green bridge. overall, Monet’s garden definitely lived up to my childhood expectations.

fleurs de nice

 photo PicMonkeyCollage1.jpg

today i picked up these beauties on my walk back from class. i saw them and fell in love but i decided not to buy them because i didn’t see a price and flowers at the market can get pretty pricey. i kept on walking but i had that feeling you get when you know you are going to regret something. i looked at the flowers at a few more stalls, thinking maybe those would suffice but none compared. i knew i had to go back and get those flowers. so i turned back around and tried to recall where that vender was. when i arrived, the stall was closing up so i got there just in time and to my surprise, they were only 2€ a bundle! i got two bundles and because the vender was closing for the day, he gave me a bundle for free! i walked back to my apartment with a huge bouquet and an even bigger smile and people were smiling at me because they probably thought i was in love! and i was… with my pretty flowers! so now i have flowers all over my room (the bouquet pictured is only a third of them!) and the resolution to buy flowers from the marché more often.

the garden shed

along with cute restaurants, cambria also has many great shops! my favorites are the cute little garden shops that seem so numerous for a town so small. the garden shed in midtown is a great place to wander and look around for creative gardening ideas. i especially love their succulent garden in the back filled with vintage signs and colorful pots. someday i will have a yard filled with succulents and flowers and fairy lights but until then, the garden shed will suffice.

lately, i’ve been appreciating my time spent at home more and more. i think lazy days are what summer is all about! one of my favorite ways to pass the day is to lose track of time reading in the garden or doing yoga in my backyard yoga room. i’m so blessed to live in such a beautiful place and summers like this make me never want to leave.

thanksgiving flowers

Photobucket

as i mentioned in my last post, i did the flowers and decorations for my schools thanksgiving feast last thursday. since we are on the southern hemisphere, we are going into summer so my choice of flora and fauna was vastly different than typical thanksgiving decor like berries and leaves. i used mostly wild flowers and grasses from the fields surrounding my college and bottles from the many ginger sodas we drink around here. i also made an homage to fall in one of the windows thanks to some decals and a leaf garland my mom sent me so i would still get a taste of fall. my favorite part of the whole project was creating the wonderful smelling jasmine garlands for the curtain rods and mantle. decorating reminded me how much i love working with flowers and of my job last summer interning for a wedding florist. i could definitely do this for the rest of my life.
