every sunday, we go to tauranga, a beach town near the school, to serve at the local church and after, we usually have some time to explore and wander around. this past week, we were watching a surf competition and it started pouring rain. though i live in california, i have never been to the beach in the rain and it was so pretty! i think rain makes everything more beautiful
i’m so glad i stumbled on this cute little cafe while i was in wellington! while wandering around on cuba street, my friend and i decided to stop here for a quick bite to eat and ended up staying 4 hours! the rhubarb and strawberry breakfast parfait was beyond amazing and the hot chocolate was good but it was no scopa, which is just a few doors down and still the best i’ve ever had! i’ll always have fond memories of this darling cafe.
while in wellington, i had lots of coffee but none came even close to flight coffee at memphis belle! back in college, i watched this video by these lovely people and thought the coffee shop in it was just darling! fast forward a few months and i found myself in this same coffee shop across the world completely by coincidence. when i first walked in, it seemed familiar but i didn’t know why. after a while, i realized it was the same coffee shop and was so excited! we ended up getting coffee and hanging out here everyday while in wellington. it reminds me so much of my favorite coffee shops like night owl or alta or gypsy den back home which added to the homeyness of this city. overall, if you ever go to wellington, memphis belle coffee is a must!
i know i said this about melbourne but wellington really is my favorite city i have ever been to! something about it was just lovely! it didn’t really feel like a city but more like a really cool and quaint town. my favorite place i went was cuba street which was full of darling shops, great restaurants and the world’s best hot chocolate. the te papa museum was awesome but not gonna lie, my favorite part of the museum was the super fast internet. because when you don’t have even regular internet, super fast internet becomes all the more important.
on our way to wellington, we stayed at our friend’s grandparents beach house. i was in heaven. it wasn’t the kind of beach i’m used to back home in cali but it was beautiful and peaceful. the house was adorable! it seemed to be frozen in a time long past and there were still vintage books in the book shelves, black and white family photos on the walls and decade old cans in the cupboards. we all talked and played games late into the night then woke up early to make bacon and french toast. it really was a magical stay
