oso and ellie

i’m a dog person but i fell in love with these stray cats we found abandoned in the woods near our school. they were freezing and mangy when some of the girls heard them crying so they saved them. we named the black one oso because he looked like a bear and the other one elijah wood (ellie for short) because the girl who found her is obsessed with elijah wood and the kitty had blue eyes like him. silly heidi. word to the wise: don’t name animals you can’t keep. the kitties stayed in our laundry room until we could find somewhere to place them because life is sad and they don’t allow animals here. wa wa wa. but the good news is we found a home for them and a momma cat to take care of them so they’re in good hands but before we left, we couldn’t help but have a little photoshoot with the cuties. we’ll always remember you oso and ellie!

when in rome… watch rugby

a few weeks back, i went to another rugby game with my school (post on my last rugby game here). our team, the hamilton chiefs, lost but it was still a really exciting game. we had a blast painting our faces red, black and gold, cheering really loud at all the wrong times and munching on snow cones. at the end of the game, there was a beautiful sunset which just makes everything a hundred times better, right?

mister d’s

lunch at mister d’s was probably the highlight of my trip to hawkes bay. we decided to splurge and go to a nice restaurant while we were in napier and i’m so glad we did because this was one of my favorite meals to date. there were a few moments of silence after our food arrived as we dove into our meals… it was that good! but their homemade donuts really took the cake! the donuts come fresh out of the fryer and they bring out syringes of different fillings to fill your own donut. though i’m allergic to gluten, the stomach ache that followed was no comparison to this amazing concoction. so if you’re ever in napier, make sure to ask for the donuts at mister d’s… they aren’t on the menu which makes them all the more special.

color my life

 photo HSO_5618.jpg

the main reason we went to whangerai for outreach was to help paint a building in the local community center. i have never painted before but it was such a blast. we painted every side of the outside of the building a different color (my favorite was, of course, the yellow) and we painted the inside white with a blue ceiling. it was great team building (i was blessed with the best, most hilarious team ever) and even when it got hot and tedious, there is nothing blasting mamma mia and a few laughs couldn’t fix. i sure do love these people.

russell

 photo HSO_6095.jpg

russell is a cute little wharf town a ferry ride across from the waitangi treaty grounds. i swear this town felt straight out of a nicholas sparks movie. it was so quaint and perfect. from eating oysters on the dock while watching a wedding procession to wandering the cute streets, it was such a sweet day spent with some of my favorite people. and if i ever come back to new zealand, russell will be the first place i want to go.
