seventh tea

 photo HSO_3107.jpg

one of the odd things about going away is coming back to things completely different than how you left. new places open, favorite places close, new buildings are built and the old is torn down. its such a weird concept that life goes on even when i’m on the other side of the world but that’s life! i love re-discovering the place i’ve lived all my life with new awe and wonder. one place that i’m just now discovering is seventh tea at the oc mix mart. it’s owned by the same people who opened portola, which is in my opinion the best coffee in orange county so even before i tried it, i knew this place would be quality. i love the concept of tea on tap and my iced oolong was great! all i can say is i know where i’ll be spending my time this summer

happy june everyone! this is the best month of the year but i might be a little biased 😉 after an unintentional blog hiatus, i’m finally back! being home has been so nice and such a change of pace from life in new zealand! honestly, i’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing: just relaxing, catching up on some of my favorite tv shows (revenge and modern family), reading some great books and unpacking and its been glorious… well besides the unpacking part. i feel like i’ve been home months instead of 2 weeks. goodness time flies. besides all the ‘nothingness’ i’ve been doing, i got to see one of my favorite bands, daughter, perform at the troubadour and it was such a wonderful performance, saw one of my besties graduate (congrats christina!), had some fun adventures in la, eaten a lot of fruit, drank a lot of green smoothies and taken lots of beautiful walks by the beach. so far, this summer has been so good. summer, i like you. stay a while

grad dinner

at my college, graduation dinner is a bit like prom. everyone gets dressed up, goes out to a local restaurant and has a blast. i don’t think i have ever laughed more than this night. we have all gotten so close and i can honestly say this has been one of the best seasons of my life thus far. these people are some of the funniest, sweetest, most caring, most encouraging people i’ve ever met. it’s so sad to be moving on but i’m so excited for all of our futures. luckily, a few of us live in california so we’ll hopefully be seeing a lot of each other but its pretty hard to comprehend that we won’t be together as a school again. though i’m moving on to other things (update soon), i’ll always look back on my time in new zealand fondly. God is good

{hair props to sarah}

love these people!

when in rome… watch rugby

a few weeks back, i went to another rugby game with my school (post on my last rugby game here). our team, the hamilton chiefs, lost but it was still a really exciting game. we had a blast painting our faces red, black and gold, cheering really loud at all the wrong times and munching on snow cones. at the end of the game, there was a beautiful sunset which just makes everything a hundred times better, right?

dinner party

 photo HSO_6610.jpg

our last night in whangerai, the family whose house we were staying at prepared a homegrown feast for our group. it reminded me of a kinfolk dinner party complete with great food, great company and a beautiful setting. our host prepared a lamb raised on their farm (i’m a vegetarian so i didn’t eat it but i could still appreciate the work that went into it) and lots of fresh vegetables from their garden (the purple potatoes were my favorite). we ate out on their porch and it was such a beautiful and perfect night. someday, i dream of having a farm so i can host magical dinner parties like this.
