on our first day in christchurch, our team decided to walk to the beach from the camp we’re staying at. seems simple enough. we heard the beach was a 15 minute walk away so we started off around 7 at night hoping to be home before nightfall. we ended up getting lost and walking parallel to the beach in a forest for 8 miles until we finally got to the beach through a sandy, overgrown horse trail. needless to say, it was a grand adventure. we found a hedgehog which we lovingly named kent, took tons of silly photos, stargazed on the beach, found a street called ‘stalker road’ and made up our own stupid jokes to keep us entertained on the long, dark walk back. needless to say, it was one of those nights even pictures, which supposedly say 1000 words, would never begin to describe. and we all know those are the best kind of nights
a few weeks back, some friends and i missed the noon service at our church so while we waited for the 5pm service, we took some time to hang out at some of our favorite places in la like silverlake and melrose. it ended up being a pretty epic day full of good laughs, great food, lots of coffee and endless pictures, thanks to casey’s iphone. why is it that impromptu days with no set plans always end up being the most memorable?
coffee and great conversations with friends are one of the things i cherish most about being home. casey and i met at milk+honey, a great local spot, and chatted and laughed for hours. the best part about this coffee shop (besides my other best friend ellie working there) is how beautiful it gets at dusk. this was my new camera’s first run and i’m so glad i got to capture these moments
today, i finally tried sprinkles ice cream and it lived up to, even exceeded, my expectations! i want to hug whoever came up with the brilliant idea of mixing my two favorite things: ice cream and sprinkles cupcakes. i had the butter pecan which was good but the red velvet really took the cake (pardon the pun). the shop is absolutely adorable too with thomas jefferson’s ice cream recipe decorating the ceiling and a big white window seat for sitting. this ice cream, unlike sweet rose creamery, was definitely worth the trek.
